When I was 63 years old I moved into a house that had a bathtub/shower combination where I have to step over the side of the tub to enter. For the previous 40+ years I always lived in houses with walk in showers, so this was a new experience for me.
It was also an experience that set me to worrying about my balance issues. My feet were in bad shape, and I would sometimes feel very unsteady. As I live alone, the prospect of falling in the tub was quite scary, so I embarked on crusade to restore my balance. Six years later, after much yoga and Pilates training I now feel much more comfortable on my feet. I am now a Pilates teacher and I get to work with other seniors on their balance issues.
That being said, however, I am also grateful for the grab bar that is in my shower. Doesn’t hurt to be safer!
