Great post! Over the years I have fought the battle with my body as well. I have two brothers who are/were over 400 lbs, and a couple of sisters who are in the 260 range. Weight gain seems to be in our genes, and until I retired 4 years ago it was a constant battle to not join them. Work gets in the way of exercise, and at those times when the work piled up, so did the pounds, and if I hadn’t gone and lost 30–60 lbs on several occasions I might have gotten there.
When I retired I decided that whereas many retired guys rebuild old cars as a hobby, my hobby (and my life’s pursuit) would be to rebuild this old body, and my mantra is “Working for a life, not working for a living.” 5 years of yoga, 2 more years of Pilates later, and I am now planning my next ultramarathon, have become a Pilates teacher, and will be working at at least 2 studios. My body is much happier now!
