Great article, Julia, and I really enjoy reading about your adventures. I know a lot of women who rock, both in the most literal sense as in my friend Brie Darling who has resurrected her all girl band “Fanny” from the 70’s as the now all septuagenarian “Fanny Walked the Earth”, and in the sense of not letting age slow one down, like my friend Christine Van Loo. I competed in Acrobatic Gymnastics in the 1984 National Championships in that sport and met Christine as she was winning the second of her seven national titles in Mixed Pairs, and she is still going strong in her early 50’s as the principal aerialist for Cirque de la Symphonie and shows no signs of slowing down. Sadly, one of the finest examples of your tribe, my former coach Judy Gedney, who took to powerlifting in her 40’s and was winning world championships and setting records into her late 60’s has been sidelined by an Alzheimer like condition (https://captainunivac.com/2016/08/01/roger-and-judy-and-i-july-2016/). As for me, my motto when I retired three years ago from Working for a Living and moved over to Working for a Life was “65 going on 45”, a goal that I am sure you can relate to (https://captainunivac.com/about/)! Keep up the wonderful adventuring, but try to cut down on things like dread diseases and killer ant attacks!
