Back in the late 70’s I was down at Muscle Beach in Santa Monica (the ORIGINAL Muscle Beach, not the johnny come lately down in Venice) and I saw a young lady who was doing one-armed pull-ups. Not the cheater ones where you grasp the wrist, but full on single arm pull-ups.

She probably did over a dozen with each arm, and I went over and talked to her. She was a student at Santa Monica College and a rock climber. Her name was Lynn Hill, and she went on to be the premier female rock climber in the world. Among many other accomplishments, she was the first climber to free climb the nose on El Capitan in 1993.
